FLEA MARKET AIDILFITRI: HELPING FAMILIES IN NEED WITH FREE CLOTHING

SERI ISKANDAR, March 15 (Bernama) -- More than 1,000 kilogrammes of second-hand clothing, including baju kurung, baju Melayu, T-shirts and children's apparel, were distributed free of charge to those in need during the Flea Market Aidilfitri 2025 programme at Bandar Universiti Mosque here.

Project director Noraziah Azizan said that all clothing had been carefully selected, and each family was allowed to take one item per person based on their needs.

She said the distribution was open to underprivileged individuals in Bandar Universiti and nearby areas, especially those seeking Raya clothing.

"This programme is being held for the first time through a collaboration between the Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Perak Branch, Seri Iskandar Campus, and the Bandar Universiti Mosque Committee.

"We aim to assist over 400 families. On the first day, we registered 200 families, and the rest will be assisted tomorrow. We also hope to receive continuous donations," she told Bernama.

Noraziah said the two-day programme runs from today until tomorrow, from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm at the mosque's lobby.

She explained that clothing collection began in mid-February through internal staff announcements and contributions from various donors.

"Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging. We've received many clothes, both used and new," she said, adding that they received families from outside Perak Tengah and even Penang, who learned about the event through social media.

"If all goes well, we plan to continue this programme next year and make improvements, as the turnout exceeded our expectations," she said.

Meanwhile, Bandar Universiti Mosque chairman Azman Zainonabidin said the mosque had set up a clothing collection centre to help bring cheer to underprivileged families.

For Zainal Abidin Awang, 67, from Kampung Tengah, Parit, the initiative was a great help as his family received quality second-hand clothes, some even unused.

Faridah Mat Baki, 66, from Ayer Tawar, also appreciated the organisers' efforts, saying the donations had eased the burden of many families.
