KUALA NERUS, March 16 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is continuing its free tuition programme, Asnaf to Asnaf (A to A) for 325 students this year.

Its vice-chancellor Prof Ir Dr Mohd Zamri Ibrahim said the programme involved an allocation of RM365,400 funded by Etiqa Family Tafakul Berhad.

He said the programme, which is now in its fourth year, aims to provide an opportunity for primary and secondary school students from the asnaf group to receive free guidance from UMT students who work as tutors.

"The collaborative programme between UMT and Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad has been rebranded as Etiqa Community Tuition this year.

"We are committed to continuing this programme to help more needy primary and secondary school students who need additional academic guidance," he said in a statement today.

Zamri said the programme has benefited 1,630 students and 405 undergraduates over three years.

According to him, the consolation payment channelled to the undergraduates involved has also been very helpful in covering their daily expenses on campus.

"The students chosen as teaching staff also consist of the asnaf group. This is among UMT's efforts to help needy university students cope with the cost of living.

"Alhamdulillah we still have sponsorship to continue this tuition programme. For 2025 UMT and Etiqa Family Takaful will further strengthen their collaboration through the Etiqa Wakaf Boardwalk project which focuses on biodiversity and environmental conservation," he said.
