JAKARTA, March 19 (Bernama) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has sent a letter to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, focusing on the bilateral relations between the two nations and the latest developments in Palestine.
The letter was delivered by Abbas’ Special Envoy, Mahmoud Al-Habbash, during a meeting at Merdeka Palace on Tuesday.
According to a statement from the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, the letter reaffirms the strong relationship between Indonesia and Palestine and highlights concerns over the ongoing situation in Palestinian territories.
“We have brought a letter concerning the relationship between Indonesia and Palestine, as well as the broader Palestinian issue, particularly the worsening conditions under Israeli aggression,” Al-Habbash said.
He also expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s long-standing support.
The Palestinian delegation provided an update on the current conditions in Palestine and conveyed gratitude for Indonesia’s consistent diplomatic backing.
“We trust Indonesia and its position on the Palestinian struggle, and we believe that the Indonesian government and its people will continue to support Palestine’s pursuit of freedom and independence,” he added.
Accompanying Prabowo at the meeting were Foreign Minister Sugiono, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry in a statement on X has condemned Israel’s latest attacks on Gaza, which killed over 232 civilians, including children, during Ramadan.
Calling the strikes on Monday a threat to the ceasefire and peace efforts, Indonesia urged the United Nations Security Council to act immediately and restore calm.
The ministry also reaffirmed that ending Israel’s occupation is the only path to lasting peace.
