JAPANESE AMBASSADOR, BERNAMA CHAIRMAN DISCUSS MEDIA COLLABORATION

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Noriyuki Shikata, has reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to enhance media collaboration with Malaysia, particularly as the country assumes the role of ASEAN Chair this year.

During a meeting with the Chairman of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai on Wednesday, both sides discussed opportunities for greater cooperation, including a potential partnership between Bernama and Japan’s national broadcaster, NHK.

“It was an honour to meet Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai. I look forward to promoting media collaboration between Malaysia and Japan, especially during Malaysia’s ASEAN Chair in 2025,” Shikata said on his X account @JPNAmbMalaysia following his visit to the agency’s headquarters, here. 

Separately, the Japanese Embassy told Bernama that the discussions also covered broader areas of bilateral cooperation, including the economy and key policy issues, in the lead-up to Expo 2025 Osaka.

Both sides exchanged views on the increasing exchange of high-level visits between Japan and Malaysia, emphasising their significance in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties.

Shikata shared photos on X of his visit to Wisma Bernama, where he was given a tour of the news agency’s facilities.

Malaysia and Japan have a longstanding history of media and journalism collaboration, with past partnerships involving Kyodo News, among others.
