JAKARTA, March 25 (Bernama) -- The Consulate General of Malaysia (KJM) in Medan, together with several Malaysian companies, hosted an Iftar event on Tuesday for 50 orphans from Asrama Sahabat Yatim in Kota Medan.

The event, attended by local government and education figures, was enlivened with a special magic performance, a ‘nasheed’ singing presentation, and the distribution of festive money (duit raya) from consulate staff and Malaysian business entities.

In his speech, Consul General Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek emphasised the importance of solidarity and sharing sustenance, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, with those in need.

"This event is a manifestation of the willingness of Malaysian entrepreneurs in Medan to fulfil their social responsibility by contributing to the community," he said, according to a statement from the consulate.

He also expressed the consulate's readiness to assist Malaysian and Indonesian entrepreneurs in expanding their businesses, which would directly contribute to strengthening trade relations between Malaysia and Indonesia.

Among the Malaysian businesses supporting the event were NR Chemical & Organic Industry (M) Sdn Bhd, PT Multi Alam PRIMA Rasa (ADABI), CV Mewah International Solusi (My Solution), and  PT Deli Food.

Several Indonesian businesses, including PT Manna Space and PT Seribu Rental, along with private individuals, also contributed to the success of the event.
