MELAKA, March 31 (Bernama) -- Nearly 2,000 residents around Padang Temu here celebrated 1 Syawal with a unique touch by performing the Aidilfitri sunnah prayer in an open area at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Padang Temu today.

Padang Temu Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) chairman Mohd Nazri Aziz said that the implementation of the Aidilfitri sunnah prayer in the courtyard was the first of its kind organised in the state, in line with the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.

"Of course, it is the best method to strengthen the ties among the residents, and it is carried out in the school courtyard because the capacity of most suraus is limited, while the mosque can only accommodate around 700 worshipers, and the number of worshippers increases every time with Hari Raya."

"So, the management board of the Ar-Raudhah Mosque, Padang Temu chose to hold the sunnah prayers in an open area, and we thank SK Padang Temu for graciously allowing the school courtyard to be used as the prayer location, as well as the Melaka Mufti Department for their support and approval," he said to Bernama.

Earlier, the Aidilfitri sunnah prayer, which began at 8 am, was led by Imam 1 of Ar-Raudhah Mosque, Wan Muhammad Ashraf Mansor@Mohd, while the sermon was delivered by Imam 2, Muhammad Muzairy Idris.

Mohd Nazri said that the implementation of the sunnah prayer in open locations will continue next year if it receives a positive response from the residents.

"As far as I know, only in Perlis has the Eid prayer ever been performed in an open place," he also said.

Meanwhile, resident Azrina Kamal, 26, said she was excited to have the opportunity to perform the Aidilfitri sunnah prayer in an open location.

"Usually we pray in the mosque, comfortable with air conditioning or fans and thick carpets, but (praying) in this open location gives a very beautiful feeling.

"It is a new experience and I hope that in the future, such Eid prayers (in open places) can be continued in more locations," she added.
