KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed that a child died after medical care was disrupted by a strike on Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, which has now been forced out of service.
WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the hospital’s emergency room, pharmacy, laboratory and X-ray unit were destroyed, leaving the facility unable to admit new patients.
"The hospital was forced to move 50 patients to other hospitals. Forty critical patients couldn’t be moved. The hospital is unable to receive new patients pending repairs," he said in a post on X Monday.
Ghebreyesus said hospitals, patients and health workers must be protected in accordance with international humanitarian law.
"Attacks on health care must stop. Once again we repeat: patients, health workers, and hospitals must be protected. The aid blockade must be lifted. Ceasefire," he said.
Earlier, the Palestine News and Information Agency (WAFA) reported that Israeli warplanes bombed the emergency and reception building of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, operated by the Episcopal Anglican Church in Jerusalem.
The hospital sustained severe damage and fires broke out in multiple departments, rendering it non-operational. The adjacent church also suffered significant damage in the attack.
