WASHINGTON, April 16 (Bernama-dpa) -- US President Donald Trump remains firm in the tariff dispute with China, stating that "the ball is in China's court" and that China must make a deal with the US, his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Tuesday.
"China needs to make a deal with us. We don't have to make a deal with them," Leavitt said, reported German news agency dpa.
"There's no difference between China and any other country, except they are much larger, and China wants what we have, what every country wants, what we have, the American consumer, or to put another way, they need our money."
Leavitt made the statement during a press conference at the White House after she spoke with Trump.
Trump had earlier expressed openness to talks but was waiting for a call from China.
The US president had imposed special tariffs of up to 145 per cent on Chinese goods. In response, Beijing increased its tariffs on US imports to 125 per cent.
