KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Six media practitioners today received donations from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund to help alleviate their burdens, especially in terms of finances and health.
The donations were presented by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil in conjunction with the Communications Ministry's Hari Raya 2025 celebration at Angkasapuri here.
The recipients are former Media Prima journalists Aidil Abdul Ghaffar, 57, and Mazlin Nordin, 58; former Karangkraf journalist Zailani Ahmad, 60; and former The Vibes journalist Mohd Shahrim Mohd Tampin, 50.
Also receiving the donations were Malaysia Gazette broadcast journalist Nurayuni Johari, 33, and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) technical publisher Noor Azizi Abdul Kasim, 54.
Present at the event were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, as well as Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
The six recipients are eligible to receive the donations due to financial hardship and health problems.
Aidil is among the victims affected by the recent gas pipe explosion in Putra Heights, Mohd Shahrim does not have a regular source of income, while Mazlin, Zailani, Nurayuni and Noor Azizi, each due to health problems.
The distribution of Tabung Kasih@HAWANA aid proves the commitment of the MADANI Government to uphold the values of compassion in ensuring that media practitioners who have contributed to society are not forgotten.
The initiative has benefited 366 media practitioners nationwide since its introduction in April 2023.
The fund was created in conjunction with the celebration of National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2023 as an initiative of the Ministry of Communications, implemented through Bernama.
It aims to support journalists and media practitioners, whether they are still in service or have retired, are ill or facing financial difficulties, in appreciation of their services in the journalism industry.
