KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 (Bernama) -- Sri Pahang FC closed the 2024/2025 Super League campaign in style by securing a 3-2 win over Penang FC at the Temerloh Municipal Council Stadium here today.
The Fandi Ahmad-led squad managed to take the lead in the first half through import Mykola Ahapov who knocked in Sergio Fabian Aguero's perfect pass in the 18th minute.
As soon as the second half started, Penang who had missed several chances in the first half, managed to tie the score at 1-1 in the 48th minute through Alif Ikmalrizal Anuar's fierce strike.
However, the situation did not last long as the home side regained the lead 10 minutes later when Syazwan Andik Ishak’s powerful strike beat Penang goalkeeper, Al-Iman Wahiey Amir.
The visitors, however, managed to bounce back in the 64th minute through an own goal by Sri Pahang defender Stefano Brundo who inadvertently buffered the ball into his own goal while trying to clear the ball out.
Undaunted by the setback, Sri Pahang continued to go on the offensive and from one such move, Mykola became the hero for the home team when he blasted Sri Pahang's winning goal in the 87th minute thus gifting Sri Pahang three important points.
The result saw Sri Pahang move up three places to finish the season in sixth place with 29 points while Penang remained in 10th place after collecting 27 points.
Meanwhile, in another Super League action that took place tonight, Selangor FC also closed out the season in style after winning 2-0 over the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) 2-0 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) today.
Selangor's two goals were scored in the second half through Alvin Fortes and Yohandry Orozco in the 49th and 90th minutes respectively.
The result saw Katsuhito Kinoshi's squad remain in second place in the league with 52 points while The Cops finished the competition in ninth position after collecting 27 points.
