KUALA LUMPUR, April 27 (Bernama) -- Newly elected Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) President Mahinda Vallipuram has pledged to prioritise governance and outcomes to elevate Malaysian cricket to greater heights.
Mahinda, who led MCA for three terms (from 2015-2021) said good governance would form the foundation of MCA’s future initiatives with an emphasis on transparency, structured processes and open engagement with state associations and the cricket fraternity.
“We on the Executive committee will ensure efficient, structured processes that allow the game to grow, and we will embed accountability into our system, ensuring discipline and clear reporting guide to every decision we make. Outcomes are where governance meets purpose.
“We will focus on delivering programmes that are well-run and sustainable. We would need to drive improvements in performance at every level. Most importantly, we will ensure real progress - putting Malaysian cricket back on track, where it belongs. The balance between development and high performance must be aligned to achieve greater heights,” he said in an MCA statement today.
Meanwhile, Mahinda said the target is to move into the top 15 for both men and women categories in the next International Cricket Council cycle (2027–2031).
Malaysia’s men's and women's teams are currently ranked 26th and 29th in the ICC T20 rankings, respectively.
The National team faces a busy calendar this year, with the men's team set to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in Oman in October and the SEA Games in Thailand in December while the women’s team will compete in an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournament and the SEA Games.
