WASHINGTON, May 5 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- United States (US) President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose a 100 per cent tariff on all movies produced outside the US, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform Sunday, Trump said the measure is aimed at protecting the domestic film industry, which he claimed is facing rapid decline.
“I am authorising the Department of Commerce and the US Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100 per cent tariff on any and all movies coming into our country that are produced in foreign lands,” he said.
Trump described foreign incentives for American filmmakers as a threat to national security, claiming they amount to “messaging and propaganda.”
“Hollywood and many other areas in the US are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other nations,” he said.
