IPOH, May 8 (Bernama) -- In a bid to empower youth, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah has granted 81 youths the honour to deliver the Friday sermon at mosques and surau across the state tomorrow in conjunction with National Youth Day, which falls on May 15.

According to Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini, tomorrow’s Friday sermon will carry the theme Belia Berkeyakinan: Memenuhi Wawasan Dunia Akhirat (Confident Youth: Fulfilling Worldly and Spiritual Aspirations).

“The Perak Youth and Sports Department submitted a list of 81 names of young Muslims for the Perak Islamic Religious Council (JAIPk) to seek the royal consent for the purpose.

“These 81 young individuals have been granted the honour of delivering the sermon at 81 mosques throughout Perak tomorrow.

“...and next week, more will follow - particularly those from among teachers (in conjunction with Teachers’ Day),” he told a press conference today.

Mohd Annuar also stressed that mosque administrators must not obstruct the appointed youths from delivering the sermon, as they come with strong religious credentials and relevant academic backgrounds.

“Some of them are graduates in Islamic studies, Huffaz (Quran memorisers), and qualified professionals in their fields. They are fully capable of delivering sermons aligned with their expertise. This is a significant recognition of their contributions,” he said.

In fact, Mohd Annuar said mosque administrators should welcome and support the initiative, as it reflects a growing number of young Muslims who are capable and willing to take on such a spiritual responsibility.

“This should be a moment of pride - that many from our younger generation are stepping up to contribute meaningfully to the religious life of our community,” he added.
