PUTRAJAYA, May 10 (Bernama) -- The Energy Commission’s 2025 Energy Efficiency Run (EE Run) returned with its highest turnout, drawing nearly 2,000 participants to promote energy-saving habits and sustainable living.

ST Strategic Planning and Communications Department director Rumaizi Abdul Halim said the run, now in its seventh edition since launching in 2011, has seen a notable increase in children's participation.

He added that for the first time, it was held at night under the theme ‘Night Run—Efficiency in Every Step!’, offering runners a cooler, more relaxed experience.

Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Fadillah Yusof officiated tonight's event, which ST chief executive officer Siti Safinah Salleh attended.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Rumaizi said the run is designed to encourage healthy living and raise awareness of responsible electricity use.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the newly enacted Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act 2024, which came into force on Jan 1 and is central to Malaysia’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

“ST will continue to ensure that all Malaysian energy users understand their role in improving energy efficiency,” he said.

The event also showcased the commission’s Diamond Building, certified Platinum by the Green Building Index, as a model of efficient energy use. Throughout the event, participants engaged in energy-themed games, talks and quizzes on green living.

In addition to cash prizes of up to RM1,000 for race winners, each participant received a medal made from recycled plastic, designed in the shape of the Diamond Building and produced in partnership with green startup Natureloop.

The run also featured collaboration with inclusive running groups such as The Incredible Warrior Club and Little Fighter Runners, which support children with special needs.
