SERDANG, May 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) has introduced the Voluntary Next Generation Vehicle (NxGV) Labelling Scheme, aimed to provide a clear and transparent framework to assess vehicles based on energy efficiency, emissions, safety, connectivity and intelligent features.
Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Hanafi Sakri said Malaysia’s NxGV Labelling Scheme reflects MITI’s commitment to position Malaysia, and by extension ASEAN, at the centre of the global shift towards sustainable and high-technology mobility.
He said the introduction of the NxGV Labelling Scheme is a significant milestone in advancing the objectives of the National Automotive Policy 2020 (NAP 2020).
“It provides a clear and transparent framework to assess vehicles based on energy efficiency, emissions, safety, connectivity and intelligent features.
“This empowers consumers to make informed choices and drives local manufacturers to innovate, meet global standards, and remain competitive internationally,” he said at the launch of the NxGV Labelling Scheme, here today.
Also present were Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad and MARii CEO Azrul Reza Aziz.
Meanwhile, Azrul Reza said the NxGV label is a strategic signal of innovation, sustainability, and ASEAN leadership.
“Under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, we are proud to align our national mobility ambitions with regional priorities, creating a shared future where Next Generation Vehicles drive progress across borders,” he said.
“It is not only a national benchmark, but also a potential regional model for the ASEAN community as we work together to harmonise standards and support cross-border EV (Electric Vehicle) development,” he added.
He said the Voluntary NxGV Labelling Scheme is Malaysia’s first voluntary framework designed to evaluate and communicate the capabilities of next-generation vehicles, spanning energy efficiency, emissions, safety, autonomous features and connectivity.
