BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 14 (Bernama) -- The police dismantled a drug distribution syndicate by seizing 51,180 grams (g) of cannabis worth RM158,658 along with two local men in Perai here last Saturday.
The District Police Chief of Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) ACP Helmi Aris stated that acting on information and intelligence, a team from the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) detained a car carrying two men aged 45 and 59."
Upon inspection of the vehicle, 50 packets of compressed plastic wrap containing dry leaves suspected to be cannabis weighing 51,180 g with a value of RM158,658 were found, sufficient for 102,360 drug addicts," he said in a statement tonight.
He said that urine tests found both suspects negative for drugs but each had a criminal record related to drugs and crime.
He also stated that the police seized two cars worth RM81,000 believed to have been purchased from the proceeds of drug sales.
"Both men will be remanded for seven days, until May 17, to assist investigations and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
