KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia confirmed their slot in the semifinals of the men's team regu at the 2025 Asian Sepak Takraw Championship after achieving their second straight victory in Group B by defeating Japan 3-0 at the Titiwangsa Stadium here today.
The country’s first regu comprising Amirul Zazwan Amir (feeder), Muhammad Syahir Rosdi (tekong), and Mohamad Azlan Alias (killer), contributed the first point after a 15-11, 15-7 win while the momentum was then continued by the second regu comprising Farhan Adam (feeder), Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam (tekong), and Muhammad Noraizat Nordin (killer), who won 15-8, 15-9.
The third regu of the country, Aidil Aiman Azwawi (feeder), Muhammad Zulkifli Abd Razak (tekong), and Muhammad Afifuddin Mohd Razali (killer), ensured a 3-0 victory for Malaysia after beating their opponents 15-8, 15-8 in straight sets.
Commenting on the match, the head coach of the national sepak takraw team, Ahmad Jais Baharun, acknowledged that all three regus that were deployed tonight achieved positive results but were far from their best.
“We hope that for the final group match tomorrow against South Korea, the players who are fielded can further strengthen their defence and attack so that they can present a better performance,” he said.
Malaysia achieved their first victory in Group B after defeating Brunei 3-0 in a match that took place in the morning.
The last Group B match for Malaysia will will be against South Korea to determine the winner and runner-up of Group B.
