PHILIPPINES' MARCOS ORDERS ALL CABINET SECRETARIES TO RESIGN AFTER MID-TERM POLLS

MANILA, May 22 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos has called for the courtesy resignations of cabinet secretaries, after the poor showing of the administration candidates in the May 12 mid-term elections, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Thursday, Xinhua reported.

According to the PCO, the reshuffle "is aimed at giving the president the elbow room to evaluate the performance of each department and determine who will continue to serve in line with his administration's recalibrated priorities."

"This step marks a clear transition from the early phase of governance to a more focused and performance-driven approach," said the PCO.

The PCO assured the public that government services will remain "uninterrupted" during this transition.

Marcos was elected president in 2022 and has three more years to finish his six-year single term in 2028.

In the recently concluded elections, only six senatorial candidates backed by Marcos made it to the senate, a performance that fell short of expectations.
