LABUAN, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Labuan-based Sabah state government-linked company (GLC) Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd (ASB) has marked a significant international milestone by securing its first international client, the Philippines’ Prime Energy Resources Development BV.

ASB chief executive officer Japar Esteban said the contract is to set up a supply base and provision of associated services for a key energy project in the Philippines.

The contract, signed in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Philippines, on Sept 19, will see ASB supporting Prime Energy’s drilling campaign for the Sinagtala Project, which is critical to extending the operational life of the Malampaya gas field.

The Malampaya field is the only deep-water gas-to-power facility in the Philippines, playing a crucial role in the  Philippine’s energy security.

Japar expressed pride in being part of the Sinagtala Project, noting that it strengthens the ASB’s position in the international market.

“We are honoured to support the Sinagtala Project as part of our first international contract.

“ASB is committed to providing essential supply base services that will help extend the life of the Malampaya gas field, a key component of the Philippines’ energy infrastructure,” he told Bernama today.

He said the Sinagtala Project aims to ensure the continued operation of the Malampaya gas field, which is critical to maintaining a stable and secure energy supply for the Philippines.

Japar emphasised that ASB’s services would play an essential role in supporting the project and contributing to the country’s broader energy strategy.

“Our logistical services will be pivotal in bolstering the Philippines’ energy security and meeting its strategic energy needs,” he added.

Japar said the partnership highlights ASB’s dedication to the Philippines’ energy stability and showcases the company’s expertise in the international supply base and logistics sector.

Japar said the Malampaya gas field, a cornerstone of the Philippines’ energy landscape, stands to benefit from the expertise provided by ASB in its continued operations.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) dean associate professor Geoffrey H Tanakinjal highlighted the significance of this contract for Malaysia.

“The contract award to ASB is a testament to the competitiveness of Malaysian companies in the international logistics and supply base sector,” he said.

Senior representatives from both companies attended the ceremonial signing event, underlining the strategic importance of this international collaboration for the Philippines’ energy future.
