KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2024 has surpassed expectations with a record 2 million online engagements, reflecting the heightened interest in Malaysia’s healthcare sector as it gears up for the 2025 ASEAN Megatrends.
KPJ Healthcare president and managing director, Chin Keat Chyuan, described MIH Megatrends 2024 as a pivotal platform advancing Malaysia’s position in global healthcare.
“For the first time, Malaysia is showcasing its healthcare readiness on a global stage, demonstrating how our healthcare system has matured and is well-prepared to serve both local and international patients.
“We’ve had nearly 5,000 attendees, far surpassing our expectations, and the live-streamed sessions reached an estimated 1.2 to 1.5 million online viewers over two days,” he said at the close of the event today.
He also noted that the significant interest from attendees and viewers was partly due to Malaysia's ageing population and the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cancer and diabetes.
“Our Health Minister has frequently highlighted the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as cancer and diabetes, which are major issues burdening our nation.
“Therefore, healthcare cannot rely solely on doctors and hospitals, it must involve the entire community, which is why there is growing attention to these challenges,” he said.
Chin added that the event served as a launchpad for the upcoming MIH Megatrend 2025, an expanded initiative aligned with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship next year.
“We look forward to making next year’s event even bigger, we are going to escalate it to the brand new level with over 100 exhibitors from diverse segments, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and professionals from across the healthcare ecosystem,” he added.
MIH Megatrends 2024 hosted over 50 speakers, including 20 international experts, who addressed critical issues.
“This flagship healthcare event underscores our commitment to promoting Malaysia’s healthcare sector globally, with a particular emphasis on health tourism,” he added.
The three-day event, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from Oct 25 to 27, covered transformative healthcare topics such as Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, the future of national health financing, public-private partnerships for sustainable healthcare, value-based care models, and advancements in precision medicine.
MIH Megatrends 2024 is organised by the Health Ministry (MOH) in collaboration with KPJ Healthcare and in strategic partnership with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
