KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) is committed to exploring solutions to align with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's vision for all petrol station operators to improve facilities at their premises.
PDAM serves as an umbrella organisation representing various petrol dealer associations. Its membership includes associations from major brands such as Petronas, Shell, Petron, Caltex, and BHPetrol, as well as regional groups like Perak Dealers and Sabah Dealers.
Its secretary-general Bashir Ab Razak said routine maintenance has always been a priority for the association.
He noted that facilities like restrooms and prayer rooms were inspected at least every hour to ensure cleanliness and functionality, and regular audits by oil companies, local councils, and third-party entities further reinforced their commitment to quality.
“We appreciate and accept the Prime Minister's advice as a challenge for us to continue enhancing our services and facilities for the public. However, upgrading facilities across the board presents a financial concern for many stations.
“The industry is currently facing increased financial strain due to the implementation of Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) 2.0, which has led to higher operational costs,” he told Bernama.
Bashir said when it comes to upgrades of petrol stations, the financial constraints many petrol stations face pose a challenge.
“With the current dealer margins under pressure from rising costs, a revision would be essential to ensure that we can meet the public's expectations for continuous improvement in our facilities," he added.
Recently, Anwar conducted an unannounced inspection at a Petronas station in Presint 16, Putrajaya, covering aspects such as infrastructure, toilet facilities and prayer rooms for the public.
In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister has advised all petrol station operators to improve facilities at their premises to benefit the public.
He said that upgrading these facilities could elevate the quality and service to a higher level for the public's comfort.
