ISKANDAR PUTERI, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) is ready to play an important role in the success of the high-impact economic initiatives of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
IRDA chief executive Datuk Mohd Noorazam Osman said he was excited over the signing of the agreement which was witnessed by the prime ministers of Malaysia and Singapore in Putrajaya yesterday.
"IRDA is excited about the signing of the JS-SEZ agreement and will play an important or pivotal role including driving the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre in Johor (IMFC-J).
"IRDA will also work with Invest Johor and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to facilitate and speed up the implementation of investments in JS-SEZ," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong witnessed the exchange of a joint agreement between Malaysia and Singapore regarding the JS-SEZ along with six other memoranda of understanding and a letter of intent.
Anwar was reported as saying that JS-SEZ is a unique initiative where two countries work together as a team to help promote both countries and attract investments.
Meanwhile, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli posted on his Facebook that the agreement will see 100 high impact projects implemented in the next 10 years thus creating 20,000 highly skilled job opportunities.
According to Rafizi, the agreement involves nine strategic areas namely Johor Bahru City Centre, Iskandar Puteri, Tanjung Pelepas-Tanjung Bin, Pasir Gudang, Senai-Skudai, Sedenak, Forest City, Pengerang and Desaru by offering business opportunities in 11 main sectors including manufacturing, logistics, energy, as well as the digital and green economy.
