KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- Blackmores' dedication to delivering high-quality health supplements to a wider consumer base, including the Muslim community, has been boosted by its recent halal certification by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
Blackmores Malaysia and Singapore country manager Kumaran Chandrasergaran said the achievement strengthens the brand’s leadership in the health and wellness industry, adding that Blackmores is the first Australian-manufactured finished goods brand to receive the prestigious certification.
"Beyond halal compliance, this certification reflects Blackmores' unwavering commitment to ethical principles, including responsible sourcing, ethical labour practices, environmental sustainability, and animal welfare.
“This ensures our products meet the highest global standards for consumers in Malaysia and beyond,” he told Bernama during the halal certificate presentation ceremony here today.
Kumaran said the company underwent rigorous audits at its Warriewood plant and Bungarribee warehouse, meticulously evaluating every process against international benchmarks such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to ensure all production stages adhere to the highest standards of excellence.
He said JAKIM is globally recognised as the gold standard for halal certification, renowned for its stringent and respected compliance measures.
"Today, as we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we proudly affirm that for a brand like Blackmores, achieving JAKIM halal certification means our supplements meet the highest global standards not just for one community, but for all consumers.
"This milestone not only reflects our dedication to quality and integrity, but it also opens exciting doors for innovation and growth, paving the way for broader accessibility to high-quality, JAKIM halal-certified supplements," he said.
For decades, Blackmores has been a trusted name in health and wellness, known for its commitment to natural science, ethical practices, and transparency.
Kumaran highlighted that halal certification plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency in product ingredients and manufacturing processes.
Kumaran also noted that Malaysia is globally recognised as a leader in halal pharmaceuticals, and by attaining JAKIM halal certification, Blackmores is strategically positioned within this prominent ecosystem.
"This certification opens new growth opportunities, allowing Blackmores to expand its reach to Muslim-majority markets, both in the region and globally.
"Blackmores is also proud to be recognised as a Platinum Trusted Brand, a title it has won for 10 consecutive years, as voted by Malaysian consumers. This recognition reflects the trust and loyalty Blackmores has earned over the years," he shared.
The presentation ceremony was attended by Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) head of halal consultancy and advisory Mohd Dhaliff Ghaus Mohd Anuar, as well as the Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Danielle Hainecke.
Meanwhile, Mohd Dhaliff Ghaus expressed hope that Blackmores would continue to uphold halal principles while maintaining high standards, exploring opportunities, and driving new innovations for the growth of the halal ecosystem.
"Halal certification plays an important role in ensuring what goes into our supplements aligns with consumer goals and meets the highest ethical cleanliness standards.
"The process of achieving Malaysia's halal certification is rigorous. It requires a thorough audit, quality control, and undivided commitment from leadership and employees. Blackmores has demonstrated resilience in navigating this process and embraced halal as a strategic value rather than merely a regulatory necessity," he said.
