BARCELONA (SPAIN), March 6 (Bernama) -- Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching today spent nearly four hours visiting several major network equipment provider pavilions at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2025.

Teo, who is in Spain for a two-day working visit representing Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, was accompanied by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) commission member Datuk Seri Dr Chee Hong Leong.

The pavillions visited included Huawei Pavilion, Ericsson Pavilion, ZTE Pavilion and FiberHome Pavilion, each showcasing their latest technologies and innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality and Virtual reality, smart manufacturing and 5G laptops.

Ericsson Malaysia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka president David Hagerbro said that among the demonstrated technologies are its recent 5G-powered mobile workspace solution, a partnership with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB).

The multinational networking and telecommunications company also demonstrated its fixed wireless access technology for rural connectivity, along with solutions that offer customisable connectivity for specific needs.

“Malaysia is the first in the world to do this (launch 5G laptop). From a global perspective, Malaysia has truly leapfrogged as a connective nation,” he told Bernama when commenting on Teo’s visit today.

Meanwhile, a representative from ZTE shared that the pavilion allowed attendees to explore intelligent innovations that unlock new opportunities by improving existing networks.

It featured ultra-efficient RAN (Radio Access Network), high-capacity transmission, eco-friendly IDC (Internet Data Center) solutions, next-gen fixed networks, and early explorations into 6G, all while showcasing demos to provide strategic insights into the future of telecom innovation.

MWC is the world’s largest mobile industry event, bringing together key players in telecommunications to showcase innovations, discuss industry trends, and foster global partnerships.

The 19th edition in Barcelona this year saw the Malaysia Pavilion showcasing the country’s technological advancements and its role in driving progress through 5G deployment, digital infrastructure, and collaborative innovation in the ASEAN region.
