Kioxia Unveils 122.88TB High-capacity SSD For AI Applications 

KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Kioxia Corporation, a leader in memory solutions, has announced the development of its new KIOXIA LC9 Series 122.88 terabytes (TB) NVMe solid-state drive (SSD).

The first SSD built with the company’s BiCS FLASH generation 8 3D flash memory technology, KIOXIA LC9 Series, currently under development, will be showcased at various upcoming conferences starting this month, according to a statement.

As artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances and data needs escalate, enterprises require robust storage solutions to handle the growing demands of modern workloads.

High-capacity drives are critical for certain phases of the AI process, including large language models (LLMs), training and storing vast datasets, vector databases and the rapid retrieval of information for inference and fine-tuning.

The KIOXIA LC9 Series is designed for generative AI applications and offers a PCIe 5.0 interface with dual-port capabilities, ensuring fault tolerance and connectivity to multiple computing systems. These high-capacity QLC-based SSDs are ideal for hybrid and multi-cloud deployments, supporting AI server systems with training and inference data.

The new SSD also works seamlessly with KIOXIA’s recently introduced AiSAQ technology, which boosts scalable Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) performance by storing vector database elements on SSDs, instead of relying on expensive DRAM.

Additionally, this enhances system efficiency, increasing storage density and reducing power consumption per TB compared to lower-capacity SSDs.

The KIOXIA LC9 Series SSD comes in a dual-port 2.5-inch form factor, offering a massive 122.88 TB capacity with an endurance rating of 0.3 DWPD. It complies with NVMe 2.0, NVMe-MI, and PCIe 5.0 specifications, delivering up to 128 gigatransfers per second Gen5 performance.

Furthermore, the drive, equipped with two terabits (Tb) QLC, utilises CMOS directly bonded to array CBA technology, which contributes to making high-capacity, high-performance and power-efficient products.
