PERTH, March 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is set to strengthen its network and connectivity at Routes Asia 2025 in Perth, where it is scheduled to meet 18 targeted airlines.
MAHB’s senior general manager, strategy, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the company aims to engage in valuable networking, gain insights into the latest market trends, establish strategic partnerships and influence key decision-makers in the aviation and tourism sectors.
He noted that Routes Asia presents an invaluable opportunity for MAHB to connect with both existing and potential airlines
“Our goal is to foster discussions on route development with the aim of increasing the number of airlines operating in Malaysia, particularly at our key gateway, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
“We will hold meetings with 18 targeted airlines throughout the three-day event to attract new carriers to Malaysia,” he said.
Routes Asia is a premier aviation event that brings together over 110 airlines and 160 airports from the Asia Pacific route development community.
The event, taking place from March 25-27 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, is expected to attract more than 900 delegates, including representatives from airports, airlines, tourism authorities, and key aviation stakeholders.
Routes Asia 2025 will serve as a vital platform for decision-makers to engage in over 3,000 face-to-face meetings, exchange best practices, and explore new air service opportunities. It will also feature insightful conference sessions led by international experts in aviation and tourism.
Megat Ardian emphasised that the event provides an excellent opportunity for industry players to better understand market trends and challenges through discussions led by key industry speakers.
He also highlighted that the event aligns with the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) initiative, which aims to boost tourism revenue and position the sector as a key contributor to the country’s gross domestic product.
Malaysia is targeting 35.6 million tourist arrivals for VM2026.
Notably, KLIA and Penang International Airport (PIA) have been shortlisted for Routes Asia Marketing Awards in the categories of more than 20 million capacity and 5 to 20 million capacity, respectively.
Meanwhile, Routes director of events Steven Small noted that analysis showed airports in previous host destinations experienced network growth of approximately 5.7 per cent higher than comparable airports within three years.
“With decision-makers from over 110 of the region’s leading and fastest-growing airlines in attendance, Routes Asia 2024 presents a unique opportunity for Perth to showcase its remarkable growth potential and strengthen its position as a key market player.
“The event has made, and continues to make, a significant impact on the region’s air connectivity. Over half of the region’s air services in the past three years have been linked to meetings at the event.
"This is because we attract the real airline decision-makers — the people who determine where the region’s aircraft fly are here in Perth,” he added.
