KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Men’s hairdressing brand Nimroc Holdings Sdn Bhd, which has grown from a small night-market business into a chain of 19 barber shops nationwide, aims to have 100 branches within the next five years.

Founder Ardy Damis said that for this purpose, the modern barber shop has introduced a business partnership system by making high-performing employees who have served for more than five years into associate partners for setting up new branches.

“We believe success should be shared. Therefore, employees who demonstrate excellent performance are given the opportunity to manage and own part of the business through this model,” he told Bernama.

He said that Nimroc, which started out at a Cheras night market in 2009, now has around 140 employees, including management staff, and is also actively involved in corporate social responsibility by offering free haircuts for the homeless, schools, and mosques.

The programme also serves as a training platform for students of Nimroc Academy, which was established in 2021.

Ardy said the academy was established to cater to the increasing demand for careers in hairdressing post-COVID-19, thus opening up more opportunities for individuals interested in the field.

The academy provides a two-month training programme to produce skilled workers in the men's hairdressing industry, specifically for those with a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualification.

“We accept male students aged 16 to 50 years who are interested in a hairdressing career. In fact, one of our former students who is in his 50s is successfully running his own business,” he said.

Ardy said the academy also offers scholarships to eligible students, in addition to job opportunities with Nimroc after completing the course.

Nimroc Academy currently has three experienced trainers, with an intake of about 10 students each month, and provides accommodation for trainees.

“Nimroc Academy’s learning module, comprising 80 per cent practical and 20 per cent theory, is simple and easy to understand, which helps to speed up the learning process,” he said.

The company also collaborates with government agencies such as the Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA), and plans to partner with the Rural and Regional Development Ministry to attract youth from rural areas to join the industry.
