SEPANG, April 2 (Bernama) -- British Airways is partnering with Malaysia Airlines to expand its codeshare agreement, offering travellers more travel options to Europe.

British Airways’ regional general manager for the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Helen O’Connor said the expanded network will provide more choice and flexibility for customers to explore new holiday destinations.

“It is an exciting time for us at British Airways,” she said in her speech during the arrival of the airline’s first flight to Malaysia after a five-year hiatus at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.

British Airways flight BA33 arrived at KLIA at 5.20 pm, marking the resumption of daily services between London’s Heathrow Airport and KLIA.

Commenting on the development, O’Connor said the route will be operated by the airline’s Boeing 787-9 fleet, with a full cabin configuration.

“As the UK’s national flag carrier, we are proud to operate to over 200 destinations in more than 70 countries.

“Our return to Kuala Lumpur also symbolises the importance of reconnecting people, cultures and businesses between the two continents,” she added.

O’Connor also underlined several key areas in the airline’s GBP7 billion investment to enhance and expand its business.

Among them, she said that British Airways had invested in upgrading its information technology systems to offer passengers a brand-new website and mobile application, which will be launched this year.

"Some examples include the launch of our short-haul seats and cabin interiors which are now flying on nine of our narrow-bodied aircraft as well as unveiling our ‘First Cabin’ set to take to the skies in 2026.

“We have heavily invested over 100 million pounds in digital transformation to enhance our operational resilience and efficiency,” she added.
