KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Cargill has received five prestigious Edison Awards for its groundbreaking advancements in food and agriculture.

The awards recognise Cargill's role in revolutionising climate-smart farming, nutrition, and water access— all while enhancing the resilience and security of the global food system.

Cargill chief technology officer, Florian Schattenmann expressed pride in the teams behind these accomplishments, stating that these awards honour the passion and teamwork driving the company’s solutions to enhance nutrition, reduce food waste, and support farmers worldwide.

According to a statement, these awards celebrate the company's ongoing commitment to innovation, marking the third year in a row that Cargill’s contributions have been recognised.

The 2025 award-winning innovations reflect Cargill’s commitment to shaping the future of food and agriculture. One of the silver-awarded innovations, Winter Camelina for Biofuels, is a cold-climate oilseed that grows between seasons like a cover crop, offering farmers new income while supplying low-carbon fuel and feed.

Another silver-awarded innovation, Cultivated Grade Media, is a customisable and more affordable cell culture medium designed to help emerging protein technologies scale by reducing a major cost barrier.

Meanwhile, the bronze-winning Cargill Natural Flavors is a proprietary blend of natural antioxidants that extends the shelf life of ground beef by up to five days, surpassing current solutions while minimising food waste and increasing retail flexibility.

Cargill Currents, a joint initiative with the Global Water Challenge, another bronze winner, has improved water access, sanitation, and hygiene for over 150,000 people. The REVEAL Layers technology, which also won bronze, uses Near-Infrared (NIR) technology to non-invasively measure the body composition of laying hens, allowing for real-time feed adjustments, and can boost egg production by up to 20 eggs per hen.

These recognitions underscore Cargill's pivotal role in fostering innovation for a sustainable future in food and agriculture, working alongside farmers, customers, and communities worldwide to create lasting solutions.

Named after inventor Thomas Edison, the Edison Awards highlight exceptional products and solutions that address global challenges, shape markets, and inspire change. All nominations are reviewed by the Edison Awards’ Steering Committee and an executive judging body of over 2,000 senior business executives, academics, and innovation experts.
