Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park Strengthens Collaboration With Brazil, AWS

11/04/2025 07:37 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park has established strategic partnerships involving Brazil’s ChipInventor and Amazon Web Services (AWS) with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Malaysia through the Innovation Diplomacy Programme as well as the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Selangor-based Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park said the strategic partnership between Malaysia and Brazil aims to strengthen ties in integrated circuit (IC) design and manufacturing, leveraging Malaysia’s dynamic semiconductor ecosystem and Brazil’s deep expertise in IC design.

“The initiative is expected to foster joint investments, enable technology transfer, and position Malaysia as a regional hub for semiconductor excellence,” it said in a statement.

Selangor Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said ChipInventor has chosen the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park as its base for expansion into Asia.

“It reflects the confidence international companies have in our infrastructure, talent pool, and strategic location within ASEAN,” he said during his speech at the Brazil x Malaysia Bilateral Semiconductor Industry Development Programme held yesterday.

He said ChipInventor, a spin-off from Brazil’s prestigious Wernher von Braun Center for Advanced Research, is bringing revolutionary tools that will make chip design accessible to everyone.

“Their cloud-based semiconductor design platform, powered by AI and supported by AWS Cloud Malaysia, allows individuals, even those without specialised engineering skills, to design their own chips using simple no-code tools,” he said.

Showcasing the potential of local innovation, Malaysian tech startup Alphaswift Industries, the top winner of the 7th Selangor Accelerator Programme (SAP) organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), has successfully designed and prototyped a silicon chip using ChipInventor’s cloud-based electronic design automation (EDA) platform.

According to the statement, the chip is now ready for fabrication at Silterra, Malaysia’s leading foundry, highlighting the growing capability of Malaysian startups in the global semiconductor landscape.

Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park said that to further develop local talent, the Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM) is working with ChipInventor to deliver industry-relevant training through programmes such as the National Semiconductor Excellence Programme (NSEP) and the Global Semiconductor Exchange Programme (GSEP).

These initiatives aim to equip Malaysian students and professionals with vital skills in chip design, testing, and verification supporting the nation’s ambition to lead in high-tech manufacturing and innovation.

ChipInventor’s platform is hosted on AWS’s cutting-edge infrastructure in Malaysia, enabling secure, scalable, and high-performance chip design workflows.

This partnership not only enhances Malaysia’s digital ecosystem but also promotes the global adoption of cloud-based semiconductor design tools.
