KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Maybank Group has launched Maybank Global Access, a solution that seamlessly integrates a Shariah-compliant multi-currency account called the Global Access Account-i with the Maybank Global Access Mastercard World debit card.
In a statement today, Maybank Islamic Bhd said the Maybank Global Access is a convenient alternative for global travellers, supporting 18 currencies, including the Malaysian ringgit in a single account, along with attractive bonus profit rates for selected currencies.
“The launch of this card is timely, especially with the upcoming Easter break for Malaysian parents with children studying abroad and the Hajj season next month.
“The Maybank Global Access Currency Exchange feature also includes a customisable watchlist, complemented by news and charts to monitor currency and market trends,” it said.
Maybank Islamic shared that payments made using the debit card will be directly deducted from available currency balances across the 18 currencies with zero mark-up fees – providing cost savings on hidden charges and offering a broader alternative payment method for global customers.
Account holders will also enjoy five free overseas automated teller machine (ATM) withdrawals in the first year of launch.
The Maybank Global Access offering includes dual travel protection, with travel medical coverage of up to US$100,000 and personal accident coverage of up to RM100,000 provided by Etiqa, ensuring peace of mind for users, the bank noted.
Maybank Islamic chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Muzaffar Hisham said the launch is timely with the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage season, and with the Saudi Riyal being one of the supported currencies, account holders can fulfil their ibadah in peace without the need to carry large amounts of cash.
“This latest offering underscores our commitment to delivering customer-first solutions that are seamless, inclusive, and fully compliant with Islamic finance principles, in line with Maybank’s M25+ strategy,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maybank Group CEO of community financial services Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar said Maybank Global Access leverages the bank's expertise in foreign currency exchange, Islamic finance, and borderless banking to provide a superior experience for customers.
Currently, Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above with an active Maybank or Maybank Islamic current or savings account are eligible to apply. The service will soon be extended to non-Malaysian residents in Malaysia.
Applications can be completed within minutes via the MAE app – no paperwork or branch visits are required – with a minimum deposit of RM50.
