UMWT Advances Clean Mobility Via Strategic Collaboration With Transport Ministry

PUTRAJAYA, April 28 (Bernama) -- UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd (UMWT) is strengthening Malaysia’s transition to clean mobility through a strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

In support of the government’s low-carbon aspirations, UMWT has extended a fleet of five electrified vehicles to the ministry, comprising three hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) -- the Toyota Alphard, Camry and Corolla Cross -- as well as two battery electric vehicles (BEVs) -- the Toyota bZ4X and Lexus RZ.

UMWT said that this initiative will allow the MOT to assess the real-world practicality, performance and benefits of electrified mobility technologies, providing valuable insights for future policy planning.

“Malaysia’s journey towards net-zero emissions by 2050 requires collaboration and action across all sectors.

“Our support is beyond formality, whereby it enables policymakers to experience the effectiveness of electrified vehicles first-hand,” UMWT president Datuk Ravindran K said in a statement today.

He said Toyota’s “Multipathway” approach is inclusive, practical, and tailored to Malaysia’s needs, ensuring no one is left behind as we move towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.

According to the statement, this partnership reflects UMWT’s commitment to supporting the National Energy Policy 2022-2040 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap, demonstrating how private-sector innovation can help translate national ambitions into practical outcomes.

It also highlights UMWT’s strength in hybrid technology, offering scalable, real-world solutions that meet immediate needs while building readiness for full electrification.

“The collaboration is in line with the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030, which targets 15 per cent xEV adoption by 2030 and 38 per cent by 2040,” it said.

Through direct access to various electrified drivetrains, the ministry can experience infrastructure readiness, user interaction and operational dynamics first-hand, helping to inform evidence-based policymaking, the company said.
