LABUAN, April 29 (Bernama) -- A delegation from Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd (MPC), the operator of Brunei's principal seaport, has embarked on a working visit to the Labuan Liberty Wharf to explore potential collaboration in cargo handling operations with the island’s port authority.

The delegation was led by chief executive officer Wei Jin Feng and chief operating officer Fazilah Yassin.

The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening regional port connectivity and trade facilitation between Brunei and Labuan.

A briefing session was conducted by Megah Port Management Sdn Bhd (MPM), the operator of Labuan Liberty Wharf, during which MPM managing director Datuk Seri Patrick Tiong welcomed the delegates and presented an overview of Labuan Port's cargo operations, infrastructure capabilities and logistics potential.

“We are optimistic about the opportunities that can arise from stronger cooperation with Muara Port.

“Labuan is strategically positioned as a regional maritime hub, and by working together, we can enhance the cargo flow between our ports and contribute to more efficient logistics within BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area),” said Tiong.

He said the discussions focused on areas of mutual interest including containerised cargo handling, transshipment possibilities, and operational synergies that could improve regional supply chain resilience.

Tiong also highlighted Megah Port’s ongoing efforts to modernise port facilities and attract more regional maritime activity, stating that the collaboration aligns with Malaysia’s broader goal to revitalise Labuan as a maritime and logistics gateway.

The visit concluded with a site tour of Labuan Liberty Wharf, giving Muara Port officials firsthand insights into port operations and future development plans.
