MIGHT Launches Four Strategic Reports To Guide Policymakers, Investors And Industry Players

20/05/2025 06:02 PM

LANGKAWI, May 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) has launched four strategic industry reports aimed at guiding policymakers, investors, and industry players in identifying opportunities, risks, and mitigation strategies.

In a statement issued in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) 2025 today, MIGHT said the reports serve as benchmarks and strategic references for industry stakeholders, offering market analyses, comprehensive data, and in-depth assessments of current trends.

“They form part of MIGHT’s holistic approach to shaping the development of Malaysia’s high-technology sectors, involving multi-level stakeholders, situational analysis, and policy evaluation,” it said.

The launch ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang, and featured the unveiling of the the following reports: the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Industry Report, the Exploring Malaysia's Space Frontiers 2024/2025 Report, the Aerospace Technology and Innovation Report 2025/2026, and the Malaysian Shipbuilding and Ship Repair (SBSR) Industry Report 2025/2026.

MIGHT co-chairman (Industry) Tan Sri Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said key technologies in the maritime sector, such as eco-friendly ship design, integration of renewable energy and green vessels, are becoming essential for sustainability, efficiency and global competitiveness.

“The SBSR sector generated RM4.4 billion in revenue in 2023, comprising contributions from shipyards, marine manufacturing, maintenance services and design.

“Meanwhile, order values in the sector reached RM12 billion for shipbuilding and RM1 billion for repair, reflecting strong market confidence,” he said.

On the other hand, Ahmad Tajuddin said the AAM Industry Report highlights the strategic potential of next-generation air mobility in public transportation, national security, emergency services and logistics.

However, the report also identifies major challenges, including outdated regulatory frameworks, infrastructure gaps, and local talent constraints.

“Our main focus is to overcome these barriers so Malaysia can emerge as a regional leader in the AAM sector,” he added.

According to MIGHT, the reports provide a clearer view of the market landscape, covering industry size, growth rates, competitiveness, and performance benchmarks, thereby reducing uncertainty in strategic planning.

“Through a rigorous and inclusive research methodology, MIGHT remains committed to delivering deep, forward-looking insights to strengthen Malaysia’s high-tech ecosystem,” it said.
