Labuan-Based Vivendi Asset Making Waves In Global Tuna Industry

21/05/2025 03:32 PM

LABUAN, May 21 (Bernama) -- Labuan-based fisheries company Vivendi Asset Sdn Bhd has quietly become a major international player in the global tuna and seafood market despite remaining relatively unknown locally.

Founded in 1997, the company has established a strong reputation abroad for its premium frozen sashimi-grade tuna, tuna steak, tuna saku, tuna loin, and tuna cubes.

Its chief executive officer, Lee Wei Sheng, said that, with over 28 years of experience, Vivendi Asset is proud to have placed Labuan on the international map for high-quality tuna products.

“We have been supplying sashimi-grade tuna to the European and US markets for more than two decades,” he told Bernama in an interview today.

Lee said the company’s global customer base includes major importers such as Frinsa Group, Kibu Pte Ltd, Dongwon Industries, A.Y.A. Fishery, Sea Delight LLC, Atlantica Worldwide Imports, Mical Seafood Inc, Adabi, and Tri Marine Group.

Lee said these clients operate across key seafood markets in Europe, Korea, India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the United States, and Oceania, including Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and Samoa.

“Aside from (seafood for) human consumption, Vivendi Asset also diversifies into related products like fish bait and cat food,” he said.

To meet growing global demand, the company is undergoing a significant expansion, including constructing a new, larger processing facility in Patau-Patau and procuring four deep-sea fishing vessels ranging from 379 gross registered tonnage (GRT) to 660 GRT.

Lee highlighted that the global tuna market, valued at US$42 billion (US$1 = RM4.28) in 2022, is projected to reach US$54 billion by 2032, a promising trajectory reinforcing Vivendi Asset’s strategic investments.

“We may not be a household name in Malaysia, but globally, Vivendi Asset is recognised as a serious player in the tuna export business,” he added, expressing pride in Labuan’s growing role in the international fisheries industry.
