KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- The Singapore–Johor corridor has been identified as one of three emerging global “artificial intelligence (AI) PowerHubs” alongside London–Dublin and Virginia–Pennsylvania, according to the Digital Infrastructure Collective Asia.
The data was released in its inaugural Global Data Centre Report 2025 today, which highlighted the corridor's unique position to anchor AI development in Asia, supported by a critical mass of data centre stock, robust policy measures, and complementary strengths in semiconductors, connectivity, and energy strategy.
“The report identifies Asia Pacific as the fastest-growing data centre region globally, with capacity expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.3 per cent from 2019 to 2024, outpacing both the Americas (18.8 per cent) and Europe (13.3 per cent),” it said in a statement.
The independent research organisation said the Singapore–Johor corridor has been spotlighted as one of the world’s most promising digital infrastructure nodes, underpinned by its critical data centre capacity, energy strategy, connectivity, semiconductor supply chain, technology ecosystem, strategic location, and the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
“Singapore maintains over 1,000 megawatt (MW) of operational data centre capacity, while Johor’s surged from 10MW in 2021 to more than 1,500MW by 2024.
“The surge was enabled by its 'Green Lane Pathway', which shortens build timelines to 12–14 months. Collectively, the corridor is projected to surpass 3,500MW in capacity by 2030,” it added.
The report also stressed that emerging AI hubs are driven not only by capacity expansion but also by key enablers of sustainable AI infrastructure, including energy availability, regulatory support, hyperscaler growth, and geostrategic alignment.
According to the report, speed-to-market for hyperscale data centre development is shaped by grid readiness and regulatory processes, particularly renewables and other emerging energy sources.
Meanwhile, Digital Infrastructure Collective Asia partner and co-founder Tim Lin said the Singapore–Johor nexus represents a unique case where complementary strengths could establish a digital anchor for the entire region
“Identifying where AI power will concentrate is about more than capacity; it requires understanding the intersection of technology, energy, and geopolitics,” he added.
