HELSINKI, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The Finnish Innovation Fund, Sitra, sees strong potential for introducing the “Lifestyle Test” application in Malaysia, which helps users measure their carbon footprint and encourages positive and sustainable lifestyle choices.

The Lifestyle Test app is a Horizon 2020-funded project led by Sitra across eight countries: Finland, Estonia, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Portugal, and Turkey.

As of 7 Oct 7, more than 500,000 tests have been completed, with citizens planning sustainable lifestyle choices that could save 78 million kilograms of carbon dioxide.

Sitra international programmes senior lead Jussi Nevanlinna said the app could serve as a valuable tool in Malaysia, helping policymakers and businesses identify gaps and drive systemic change and innovation.

“We spoke with the Malaysian member of Consumers International and their consumer rights team; they were super excited to bring it to Malaysia,” he told Bernama during the “Climate Solutions from Finland” media programme.

“So I think it has high potential. People are concerned about their impact on the planet, and if you provide them with a way to understand what could be done, their concern about sustainable living drops a little,” he added.

Nevanlinna said the data collected by the app provides unique insights into the sustainable actions people are willing or unwilling to take. Policymakers can use this information to design targeted policies.

“We connect consumer intent, policy decisions, and sustainable market innovation. This creates data-driven progress that benefits both the economy and the climate,” he said.

Sitra, an independent future fund under the supervision of the Finnish Parliament, is dedicated to addressing societal challenges that shape the world.

Moving forward, the organisation aims to expand the initiative to more than 50 countries to encourage sustainable lifestyles and foster systemic change.
