KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- Snowflake Inc, an American artificial intelligence (AI) data cloud company, is expanding its presence in Malaysia with plans to deploy a local instance on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region.
The company said the instance, expected to go live in the first half of 2026, will enable Snowflake’s customers in Malaysia to store their data securely onshore while continuing to benefit from the flexibility and scalability of Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud.
It added that the announcement reinforces Snowflake’s commitment to local customers by providing closer proximity to their data, ensuring strong data governance, and enhancing data sovereignty.
Snowflake ASEAN managing director Satchit Joglekar said that with data sovereignty becoming an increasing priority and Malaysia’s National Cloud Computing Policy now in effect, customers need to have confidence that their data remains onshore.
“Today’s announcement marks a key milestone in offering increased compliance and security capabilities while reducing latency, enabling our customers across the public sector, enterprise, healthcare, financial services and beyond to innovate faster and more securely than before.
“It is a testament to our commitment to Malaysia and our partnership with AWS,” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, AWS ASEAN Partner Organisation leader Kirsten Gilbertson said the planned launch of Snowflake on the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region will enable Malaysian organisations to confidently push the boundaries of what is possible with data while accessing world-class cloud and AI capabilities.
“This collaboration with Snowflake will give Malaysian organisations more choice and flexibility in how they innovate with data, while enabling them to meet stringent data residency requirements,” she said.
Snowflake said its customers and partners already leveraging the Snowflake AI Data Cloud in Malaysia include ADA, GXBank and Hextech Vision Sdn Bhd.
