KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- ASEAN is committed to accelerating the clean energy transition, enhancing energy security, and expanding interconnectivity to advance its regional energy goals and cooperation, leveraging the resources the region can share among member states to foster common prosperity.
Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said that achieving these goals will depend on regional cooperation and interconnectivity as key enablers.
"Dialogues, discussions, and knowledge exchanges between partners and stakeholders will be crucial to realising this aspiration.
"This is why a platform such as the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) plays an important role in our energy cooperation. It convenes government officials, business leaders, and global energy stakeholders to discuss our energy future," he said in his welcoming remarks at the soft opening ceremony of AEBF-25, here today.
Meanwhile, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia director of energy policy and head of the Asia Zero Emission Centre, Dr Nuki Agya Utama, said ASEAN's energy transition must be pursued in a way that is both inclusive and equitable.
He added that every member state should be able to progress in line with its own national circumstances, with the appropriate support and opportunities in place.
He also said that strengthening collaboration among governments, the private sector, and international organisations will be key to accelerating progress and ensuring that the benefits of a sustainable energy future are shared across the region.
"ASEAN will remain a steadfast partner in this journey, working hand in hand with governments, businesses, and development partners to turn ambition into action," he said in his keynote speech at AEBF-25, here today.
Themed "Powering ASEAN, Bridging Boundaries and Building Prosperity", the three-day forum will be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, here, from Oct 15 to 17, 2025.
ASEAN Centre for Energy Datuk Razib Dawood said the forum would gather policymakers, business leaders, business owners, investors, researchers, and energy pioneers to shape the future of ASEAN's energy landscape.
"AEBF-25 shall be more than just a convening; it will be a place for everyone to initiate cooperation and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.
"It will be our honour to support and facilitate your discussions over the next three days to ensure we work together towards our shared future and shared prosperity," he said.
