Malaysia To Spearhead Regional Green Transition Through Partnerships

16/10/2025 06:32 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia aims to take a leading role in the regional green transition by fostering stronger collaboration between government, industry, and communities to build a low-carbon and resilient future.

Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) chairperson Shareen Shariza Abdul Ghani said the Kuala Lumpur Sustainability Summit (KLSS) and the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2025 are the country’s flagship sustainability platforms, reflecting Malaysia’s resolve to turn ambition into collective action.

“Malaysia’s message is clear. We intend to be at the forefront of this global transition, leading with purpose, powered by partnership, and grounded in action,” she said in her speech during the official launch ceremony of KLSS and IGEM 2025 here today.

Shareen Shariza said the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Climate Resilience, introduced during the summit, extends regional commitments into Malaysia’s national agenda and brings together multiple sectors to strengthen climate adaptation and resilience.

She said measures announced under Budget 2026, tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Friday, include a 100 per cent Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) for companies adopting locally produced green technology certified under the MyHijau mark -- a move expected to spur domestic innovation and strengthen the nation’s industrial base.

“The initiative rewards businesses that choose Malaysian-made sustainable technologies and helps build a stronger and more competitive manufacturing sector,” she said.

Since 2010, MGTC has facilitated RM76.8 billion in green investments and RM8.7 billion in government green procurement, while supporting 3,745 enterprises in sustainable practices and creating more than 29,000 green jobs nationwide.

She said MGTC’s next focus is to expand the Green Transformation Ecosystem, which supports local companies through training, advisory, certification, and market access to help them compete globally.

“This ecosystem will not only accelerate Malaysia’s journey towards net zero emissions by 2050 but also position our industries to thrive in international markets,” she added.
