KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Regional initiatives such as the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) and renewable energy integration are significant as an enabler of shared prosperity in ASEAN, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof today.

Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said the new Enhanced APG memorandum of understanding reflected Malaysia's renewed commitment to realise the dream of a more interconnected ASEAN.

"We believe that these regional projects are not just technical projects but also symbols of our shared vision. Closer regional cooperation, financing, innovation and partnership with our closest partners will be key to unlocking our full potential," he said at the closing ceremony of the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) here today.

Also present was ASEAN Centre for Energy executive director Datuk Razib Dawood and Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) deputy secretary-general (Energy) Mareena Mahpudz.

Fadillah said ASEAN is committed to developing its regional cooperation in ensuring energy security and accelerating decarbonisation for a just and inclusive energy transition as outlined in the theme of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030.

"We believe that by working together, we can drive meaningful progress and ensure that no member state is left behind," he added.

Hosted by PETRA and organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy, the three-day forum from Oct 15 was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

With the theme “Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity”, it attracted 1,500 delegates comprising stakeholders and key players from the ASEAN energy industry, along with international dialogue partners.

AEBF 2025 was also held concurrently with the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and its related meetings between Oct 16 and 17.
