KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- EBC Financial Group has launched a first-of-its-kind initiative linking client trading activity in Latin America directly to rainforest conservation.
Dubbed “Protect the Amazon with Every Trade”, the programme marks the first time an online brokerage has tied day-to-day market participation to tangible environmental outcomes.
For every eligible trade, EBC will donate to vetted conservation partners on behalf of its clients—at no extra cost—turning routine financial activity into measurable environmental impact.
“By introducing this programme, we enable clients to preserve one of the world’s most vital rainforests while they trade.
“This is a practical way to contribute to global climate goals while aligning with COP29’s drive to unlock private capital for climate finance,” said EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd chief executive officer, David Barrett.
The effort taps into shifting investor demographics, particularly Gen Z and millennials, who increasingly seek financial services aligned with their social and environmental values. Nearly a third of Gen Z investors began trading during college, many prioritising environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments in their investment choices.
In a statement, EBC said the initiative bridges financial performance with environmental necessity, particularly in the Amazon basin—home to 10 per cent of known species and a cornerstone of global climate stability. Scientists warn that unchecked deforestation could tip the rainforest from a carbon sink into a carbon source, threatening both ecological and economic systems.
“Markets can no longer afford to ignore climate. The Amazon’s health influences global carbon markets, ESG investing, and long-term financial resilience. Every trade that protects the rainforest is a step toward a more stable future,” Barrett added.
The programme also anticipates COP30 Brasil Amazonia, the first United Nations climate summit hosted within the rainforest region in 2025. EBC plans to expand its conservation-linked trading model globally, connecting capital markets with environmental action beyond the Amazon.
