KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- As the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting opens in Gyeongju, South Korea, China Global Television Network (CGTN) highlights China’s steady role in driving regional stability and development.
According to the CGTN in a statement, Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit—his first overseas trip since the recent 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) plenum—signals China’s intent to inject fresh momentum into Asia-Pacific cooperation amid global uncertainties.
“There has never been a more critical time for APEC,” said APEC Secretariat executive director, Eduardo Pedrosa, praising China’s longstanding support for open trade and connectivity.
Projects like Peru’s Chancay Port—South America’s first smart and green port, dubbed the “New Inca Trail”—exemplify China’s vision for openness and shared prosperity through smarter connectivity across continents.
In the first three quarters of 2025, China’s trade with other APEC economies rose two per cent year-on-year to 19.41 trillion Chinese yuan (US$2.73 trillion), accounting for 57.8 per cent of its total trade—underscoring its role as an anchor of regional commerce. (US$1=RM4.19)
Beijing is also championing innovation, from artificial intelligence and green energy projects with ASEAN to electric transport powering events in Latin America, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable transformation.
China’s drive for inclusive growth is reflected in initiatives such as the newly launched Juncao and upland rice demonstration centre in Papua New Guinea, which supports local agriculture, food security, and livelihood—part of Beijing’s broader Global Development Initiative promoting shared prosperity across the Asia-Pacific.
As CGTN notes, China’s consistent message remains firm—openness, innovation, and shared prosperity are the keys to a resilient Asia-Pacific future.
