KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- NuScale Power Corporation has congratulated its global strategic partner ENTRA1 Energy on being positioned to receive up to US$25 billion in investment capital under the newly signed United States (US)–Japan Framework Agreement. (US$1=RM4.19)
The US$550 billion bilateral framework, announced by the White House following a meeting between US President Donald J. Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo recently, aims to expand critical energy infrastructure and strengthen supply chains through combined public- and private-sector investment.
As part of the initiative, ENTRA1 Energy will develop a fleet of power plants based on baseload energy sources to meet fast-growing energy demand from artificial intelligence (AI) data centres, manufacturing and national defence sectors.
The programme is also expected to create thousands of high-quality American jobs and enhance the US’ energy independence.
“We are proud to support ENTRA1 Energy as they take part in this historic agreement between the US and Japan,” said NuScale Power President and Chief Executive Officer, John Hopkins in a statement.
He said the collaboration underscores the central role of advanced nuclear power in strengthening international alliances and meeting the growing energy needs of the economy, manufacturing, AI and critical infrastructure.
“The US–Japan framework validates the model we have built with ENTRA1—pairing proven, NRC-approved SMR technology with world-class development and asset management expertise,” Hopkins added.
The announcement follows ENTRA1 Energy’s recent agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to develop up to six gigawatts of new clean baseload power using NuScale’s SMR technology.
These initiatives reinforce the importance of advanced nuclear energy in supporting US reindustrialisation, energy security and decarbonisation.
