KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam), through its globally recognised social finance driver, Sadaqa House, continues to reinforce its commitment to empowering the next generation, especially orphans, asnaf individuals, and the B40 group, through the disbursement of Sadaqa House Scholarship and Education Grant.
Through this initiative, Bank Islam seeks to expand opportunities for underprivileged students to pursue higher education without being hindered by financial constraints.
The programme also reflects Bank Islam’s commitment to promoting community well-being through inclusive and sustainable access to education.
Bank Islam Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Mohd Muazzam Mohamed, presented Sadaqa House Scholarship and Education Grant cheques worth over RM5.62 million to Sadaqa House changemaker representatives focused on education at a ceremony held today.
Group Chief Social Finance Officer, Mohd Nazri Chik, in a statement, said the Sadaqa House Fund, raised through contributions from the public and institutions or organisations, is used to cover the living expenses and tuition fees of high-potential students from underprivileged families.
“In addition to improving their socio-economic status, our aim is to nurture knowledgeable and morally upright individuals who can contribute positively to the development of society and the nation in the future,” he said.
Key strategic partners driving the initiative include the Malaysia Professional Accountancy Centre (MyPAC), Youth Empowerment Foundation (YEF), Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (BJCK), and Brain for Future (BFF).
In the same statement, Bank Islam said that a portion of the funds received is also set aside for investment to ensure that the returns will provide a sustainable source of scholarships and education grants for future beneficiaries.
“With a target of supporting over 1,000 students through this educational initiative over the next seven years, Bank Islam greatly values the contributions and trust of Sadaqa House donors. We will continue to strive to implement initiatives that benefit the recipients,” the statement said.
Since its establishment in 2018, Sadaqa House has disbursed nearly RM13 million to support various education-focused initiatives, directly benefiting over 1,000 individuals to date.
