KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The government has allocated four more Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) mobile bank units in 2026 specifically to increase access to banking services to residents in the rural areas of Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang, and Perak.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) said the addition will bring the total to 20 mobile bank units, to facilitate the financial affairs of the rural population including more than one million recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR).

“The government also encourages the people to conduct banking affairs digitally, whereby banking transactions can be carried out anywhere and at any time safely.

“It is also hopeful that digital banking services will be expanded to rural areas, so that consumers throughout Malaysia can benefit from access and use of financial services,” the ministry said in a written response posted on the Parliament website.

The MoF was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (PH–Tuaran) who asked the ministry to state the government's plans to increase banking facilities and Employees Provident Fund (EPF) services in the Tuaran parliamentary constituency, covering the towns of Tenghilan, Nabalu, Kiulu, Tamparuli, Taman Sri Rugading, Berungis and Tuaran.

The ministry also informed that of the 11 mobile bank units currently operating in Sabah, six are operated by BSN, three by Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia, and two by Agrobank.

Meanwhile, on EPF services, the ministry said eight EPF branches are operating in Sabah, supported by three mobile counters.

"The government is cognisant of the needs of residents in the Tuaran area and will continue to expand coverage and access to EPF services in a bid to provide the best services and improving the adequacy of members' savings, in line with EPF's aim to help build a better retirement future for Malaysia," it said.
