IPOH, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Batik Air airline is expanding its domestic routes by launching the Ipoh-Singapore route starting today.
State Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the launch marked another success in Perak's aviation and tourism development.
“This new route reflects Batik Air's confidence in Perak's potential and comes at the right time as we intensify efforts to strengthen Ipoh's position as an international tourism gateway,” he said at a press conference after the launch of the Batik Air Ipoh-Singapore route at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) here today.
Earlier, he welcomed the arrival of the first 73 passengers who boarded the Batik Air flight from Singapore on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft which arrived at about 11.30 am at LTSAS.
Currently, LTSAS offers flights on the Ipoh-Singapore route with Scoot and the Ipoh-Johor Bahru route with Air Asia, while Batik Air offers flights seven times a week.
Loh said the new service is expected to bring significant benefits to the local economy.
“More flights mean more opportunities for hotels, guesthouses, travel agencies, transport operators, restaurant owners, small businesses, creative entrepreneurs, and the tourism-related community across Perak,” he said.
He said this development is also in line with the broader strategy ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
In the meantime, he said, the state government welcomes the opening of more local and international destination routes from existing airlines or other airlines in line with the LTSAS upgrade.
Meanwhile Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said in a statement that the Ipoh-Singapore service is a meaningful addition to the network, reflecting Batik Air’s commitment to connecting vibrant Malaysian cities with thriving regional markets.
“Singapore remains Malaysia’s largest source of visitors, and giving travellers a direct gateway into Ipoh creates new opportunities for tourism, business exchanges and community growth.”
“This launch forms part of our broader strategy to strengthen national connectivity ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 and to offer travellers more direct, convenient routes across Malaysia,” he said.
He added that by investing in routes like Ipoh-Singapore, Batik Air aims to support long-term tourism growth, stimulate regional development, and position Malaysia as a connected, future-ready destination in the heart of Southeast Asia.
