Steel Unit Price Index Falls 0.1 To 0.3.2 Pct In November 2025 -- DOSM

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The unit price index of steel recorded a decrease in November 2025, ranging from 0.1 to 3.2 per cent compared to the previous month.

The highest decrease was observed in Miri (3.2  per cent), followed by Kota Kinabalu (3.1 per cent) and Pahang (0.8 per cent), according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).

“The unit price index of steel and metal sections showed a slight decrease in November, with month-on-month change ranging from negative 0.1 per cent to negative 3.0 per cent in all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement.

The unit price index of cement remained unchanged in all areas except for a slight increase in the index for Pahang (2.6 per cent), Perak (1.9 per cent), and Kuching (-0.9 per cent).

Apart from that, the unit price index of sand also remained unchanged in all areas except for an increase in the index for Pulau Pinang, Kedah, and Perlis (1.4 per cent).

An annual comparison for the period of November 2024 and November 2025 indicated that the unit price index for steel recorded a decline ranging from 2.7 to 7.9 per cent, involving most areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The highest decrease in the unit price index for steel was observed in Kota Kinabalu (7.9 per cent) and followed by Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Perlis, and Sibu (-7.5 per cent), respectively.

Nevertheless, the year-on-year comparison of the unit price index of cement increased between 0.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent in November 2025 as compared to the same month last year across all areas in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The highest increase was observed in Pahang (4.5 per cent) followed by Tawau (3.9 per cent), and Sandakan (3.5 per cent).
