KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- Airwallex has acquired majority ownership of PT Skye Sab Indonesia, a PJP Category 1 licence holder, strengthening its position across Southeast Asia and expanding access to its global financial infrastructure for Indonesian merchants.

The acquisition enables Indonesian businesses seeking international growth to leverage Airwallex’s cross-border financial capabilities, while providing global companies a smoother entry into Indonesia’s digital economy.

It also expands Airwallex’s established footprint across major Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Singapore and Vietnam.

“As AI lowers software costs, infrastructure and data become the ultimate differentiator. This proprietary visibility, built on our scalable financial infrastructure, is what powers agentic finance,” said its co-founder and chief executive officer, Jack Zhang in a statement.

The acquisition follows Airwallex’s recent US$330 million Series G funding round, which valued the company at US$8 billion—an increase of about 30 per cent from its previous raise six months earlier. Proceeds will support global expansion, bolster financial infrastructure and accelerate Airwallex’s artificial intelligence (AI) roadmap. (US$1=RM4.10)

Airwallex is currently rolling out specialised AI agents designed to streamline financial workflows and enhance the speed and accuracy of cross-border operations.

Indonesia represents a strategic growth market as the country pursues its 2045 Digital Vision to become a globally competitive digital economy. Airwallex aims to support this transformation by giving Indonesian companies seamless access to its regional financial infrastructure.

With over 64 million small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) driving Indonesia’s economic engine, demand for secure and cost-efficient cross-border solutions continues to rise. Combining Airwallex’s global payments network with PT Skye Sab’s local payment capabilities will allow Indonesian businesses to scale internationally with greater confidence.

Airwallex’s expansion into Indonesia builds on its strong regional momentum. In Southeast Asia, the company recorded 108 per cent year-on-year revenue growth and a 94 per cent increase in transaction volume in the third quarter of 2025. Globally, Airwallex surpassed US$1 billion in annualised revenue and US$235 billion in annualised transaction volume.
