Sunway Square Mall Opens, Integrates Retail, Arts And Community Living

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- Sunway Square Mall officially opened its doors today, marking the launch of a 320,000 square feet, four-level pet-friendly community hub in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur.

The mall, positioned as a key component of the integrated Sunway Square development, welcomed the public with a curated mix of lifestyle, leisure and community-oriented offerings.

Sunway Malls chief executive officer HC Chan told Bernama that shopping malls in Malaysia continue to function as a vital “third space” within the social ecosystem, beyond home and work.

He said malls have evolved into extended living spaces where people gather to dine, be entertained and spend quality time with friends and family.

“Apart from home (first space) and work (second space), malls (third space) are an extended living space where people come to dine, be entertained, and spend quality time with friends and family.

“Malls are a vital part of the social ecosystem, it is the modern market place for human connection,” he said after the mall’s launching ceremony held here, which was also attended by Senior General Manager of Sunway Malls Selangor, Jason Chin.

Elaborating further, Chan said that Sunway Square Mall meets the needs of a robust catchment by delivering a tangible brand experience, supported by strong leisure, entertainment, and food and beverage tenants.

He said the wider Sunway Square development is also envisioned to strengthen creativity, innovation and collaboration within the community through the integration of the mall, office towers, Sunway University and the upcoming world-class Performing Arts Centre.

“We witnessed resounding support from the public during the opening. The fantastic turnout is a prime example of how Malaysians recognise and are drawn to vibrant community hubs,” he added.

The integrated Sunway Square development houses the new Sunway University campus comprising the Sunway Business School and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with seamless access via the Canopy Walk and the BRT system within the 15-minute city framework.

Sunway Square Mall features more than 130 shops and incorporates arts-inspired interior elements, including Spanish steps, a steel arch structure and six sculptures by resident artist Infantino Fernandes.

Shoppers also have access to the pet-friendly Sunway South Quay Lake & Park via bubble lifts, along with facilities such as the Squarrel Pet Playground and the lakeside waterfall area.

Sunway Malls currently manages 15 retail developments totalling 9.3 million square feet of net lettable area, with upcoming projects in Ipoh, Perak; Port Klang, Selangor; Johor Bahru, Johor and Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
